Helping you be healthier, one BEAN at a time! That is what we, the brother-sister team behind The Peffered Food Company , believe and strive for each day. We, John Peffer and Sandy Peffer Morrissey, are the manufacturers of Aisha's Marinated Lupine Beans or as we "peffer" to call it, THE BETTER BEAN. A time-honored food in the Mediterranean region, the Lupine bean today is highly regarded in America as a tasty, extra-nutritious alternative to the soy bean and chickpea.
The Lupine bean we use at The Peffered Food Company is the roundish seed of the sweet Yellow Lupine plant grown primarily in Western Australia. We take great care in selecting the sweetest variety of Lupine bean, since many varieties are considered quite bitter. We use a three-step process to prepare THE BETTER BEAN for you. We soak the beans in water , blanch them and finally we marinate the beans in all natural lemon juice, a good amount of white vinegar, water, and a sprinkle of salt.
Aisha's Marinated Lupine Beans are an excellent addition to any salad, soup, chili, or pasta dish and can make any meal more nutritious. They are 100% natural and loaded with fiber, protein, iron, calcium, and vitamin A. It is the perfect food for the ethnic food lover, the vegetarian, vegan, and those who want to add fiber and protein to their diet. With only 110 calories in a 1/2 cup serving, it is great for building endurance and energy, and keeping hunger at bay for our weight conscience consumers. Using all natural ingredients and no preservatives, we, John and Sandy, make five delicious varieties of Lupine beans, classic Original, Hot & Spicy, Basil, No Salt, and Garlic.
We also offer a truly different Lupine bean hummus in five exciting flavors: Original, Hot &Spicy, Cilantro, Dill, and Parsley. Each variety is made from our Original Marinated Lupine Beans, rather than the commonly used chickpea, and other all natural ingredients. This gives our hummus a richer taste, a chunky consistency, and extra nutrients. An added benefit is, with less oil used, our hummus is lower in calories than regular hummus.
All of our Lupine bean products are made by hand in a sun-filled renovated warehouse in a historic coastal town in New England. Remember what the baked bean did for Boston, we encourage you to eat THE BETTER BEAN for a healthier America.

We cannot end our story without highlighting and thanking the founder of our company, Aisha Sobeih. This company, was created from mother's love for her only son. In college, her son reminisced about eating his mother's marinated Lupine Beans, a snack food Aisha enjoyed as a child in Egypt. She began sending him the beans and they were an instant hit with him and all his friends. The idea for the company began and Aisha sold her first marinated Lupine Beans in 1996 in New York City. In May 2009, Aisha sold her company to us, John and Sandy Peffer, to continue her dream for America to enjoy THE BETTER BEAN!
